Kids Braces

Kids nowadays are very fashion-conscious, and many of them want to have perfect smiles.

This has led to a big increase in the number of children who are getting braces. While braces used to be seen as exclusively for teenagers, more and more kids are starting orthodontic treatment at a younger age.

There are many different types of braces available, and your child's orthodontist will help you choose the right type for your child. Metal braces are the most common type, but there are also ceramic braces which are less visible, and plastic braces which are more discreet.

So if you're thinking about getting your child braces, don't hesitate - they can have the smile they've always wanted!

At what age do braces become appropriate?

The age at which braces become appropriate varies from child to child, but most orthodontists agree that they should be fitted with braces between the ages of 7 and 10. This is because many of the problems that braces are used to treat, such as crooked teeth or overbite, can start to develop during this age range.

Keeping the Smile After Braces with Retainers

After your child has finished their orthodontic treatment, they will need to wear retainers to keep their smile in place. Retainers are small, plastic devices that fit over the teeth and hold them in their new position. There are different types of retainers available, and your child's orthodontist will help you choose the right type for them.

Most children will need to wear retainers for at least a year after they finish their braces, but it may be longer depending on the condition of their teeth. It is very important to wear the retainer as prescribed by your orthodontist, or else your child's teeth may start to move back to their old position.

So make sure you remind your child to keep their retainer in their mouth - and they'll be able to keep that perfect smile!
